Got Students?

For the longest time I have been a bit sad because I haven't been able to get students in my area.  I was very close to getting some, but somehow their schedules and mine never could meet up.  Now with me starting massage therapy school in 3 days, I have been wondering how I would be able to teach and go to school.  It looked like I would not be able to teach this year, until I finish up massage therapy school.

Then something hit me....I have a student!  Sure he is only 14 months old, but what a fantastic age to start!  My boy has already showed an early interest in music.  Anytime there is a song on the radio or someone starts singing on TV, he pays close attention and might even start to dance a little.  Anytime I play the piano he is right there beside me playing the keys.  He will play with one finger and play one note over and over.  Now I have been working with him keeping a pulse, and sure he is just small, but he will bounce up and down to a beat.  That is a start!  So instead of being so devastated because I couldn't teach anymore, I have found someone to teach, within my own home!  It is funny what is right in front of our eyes sometimes, and we don't even realize.

Tonic Tutor

Today I came across Tonic Tutor which is a website that offers free music games for teachers!  At Tonic Tutor you can create a profile as a music teacher and then add students to have them play games online!  You can keep track of their progress so that you know how they are doing before they even come to the lesson and  if there are a few students at the same level, you can put them into groups.  There is an option to upgrade if you would like more features such as contests, setting goals and of course more games!  But even if you don't upgrade you can still play quite a few games for free! Foriero does it again!  I found 3 more apps that I like for teaching piano lessons. 

Music Notes

Music Intervals

Music Keys

Music Notes is a game where the student can practice learning note values.  The only thing I wish this app had were different levels because a starting student might get overwhelmed with learning all of the note values at once.

Music Intervals helps students learn generic interval names in both the treble and bass clef. 

Music Keys helps students practice learning where the keys are on the keyboard (again I wish this had different levels, but besides that it is a fun game!)
